Experts from the world’s leading travel publisher Lonely Planet have selected eight beaches in Egypt that every tourist should experience at least once.
Their list highlights the unique mix of desert landscapes, turquoise bays, coral reefs, and world famous underwater life.
“Perhaps the most remarkable feature of Egyptian beaches is how the sun scorched sands of the desert suddenly give way to bottle blue lagoons and blooming coral reefs that burst into bright colors as soon as you put on your mask and snorkel,” Lonely Planet’s authors explain.
Why Egypt’s beaches feel unlike anywhere else on Earth?
Egypt is one of the world’s top destinations for scuba diving and snorkeling, and its coastline is packed with relaxing bays, water sports centers, seafood restaurants, and luxurious all inclusive resorts stretching along both the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
Almaza Bay, Marsa Matruh
A luxurious beach paradise with soft white sand and one of the clearest bays in Egypt. Perfect for travelers who want comfort, upscale hotels, and peaceful waters.
Blue Lagoon, Dahab
A dream destination for water sports fans. The calm shallow waters are ideal for kitesurfing, kayaking, and windsurfing.
El Alamein, North Coast
Known for glamorous hotels, stylish beach clubs, and vivid turquoise water. A modern Mediterranean experience.
Naama Bay, Sharm el Sheikh
One of the best family friendly beaches in Egypt. Shallow waters, coral reefs, and long promenades full of restaurants and entertainment.
Fjord Bay, Taba
A breathtaking hidden gem perfect for travelers who want to escape the crowds and enjoy cinematic desert mountain scenery.
Mahmia Island, Hurghada
A paradise for snorkeling. Visitors often spot dolphins around the island, and the coral reefs here are some of the most colorful in the region.
Al Naiyzak, Marsa Alam
A naturally formed rock pool created by ancient meteorite impact, perfect for adventurous swimmers and lovers of rocky landscapes.
Private beaches of Alexandria
Ideal for those who prefer classy club style relaxation with Mediterranean vibes, cafes, and a mix of history and beach culture.
Why winter is actually one of the best times to visit Egypt
While +20 to +23 degrees may not always tempt everyone into the water, winter in Egypt is warm enough to enjoy the coastline comfortably without the scorching summer heat.
This is also the perfect time for sightseeing. The gentle winter sun allows tourists to explore:
• The Pyramids of Giza
• Luxor and the Valley of the Kings
• The Library of Alexandria
• Nile River cruises
• Desert safaris and Bedouin villages
In summer, temperatures often rise above +40 degrees, making long excursions almost impossible. Winter, however, offers ideal conditions for history lovers and families.
With warm weather, exotic landscapes, world class coral reefs, and iconic landmarks, it is the perfect place to escape the cold.
Lonely Planet’s list highlights eight beaches that showcase the very best of Egypt, from luxurious bays to remote natural wonders.
